Two wars fought. Two victories achieved!
In 1967, China attacked India twice – first at Nathu La pass and then at Cho La pass along the Sikkim border. Although taken by surprise, the Indian army fought back and won both the battles. Yet these victories have been long forgotten in the pages of history.
Oddly enough, when one talks about Indo-China war, it is the defeat of 1962 that is talked about, not the victories of 1967. Shedding a light on the forgotten phase of the military history is Probal DasGupta, army veteran, business leader, historian and the author of Watershed 1967: India’s Forgotten Victory over China. Through his book, Probal takes the readers to a journey through history, recounting the incidents that lead to the 1967 wars and its consequences thereafter.
Probal DasGupta joins journalist and fellow history buff, Surya Gangadharan to discuss his book – Watershed 1967, the significance of the Indo-China war, General Sagat Singh and the reasons why the 1967 victories were whitewashed from Indian history in the inaugural edition of Books Corner, StratNews Global.
