1965 was a chaotic year for India. With attacks from Pakistan on the west to and political pressure from China in the north, India was being pressured from the two sides to bow down. China used some underhanded tactics to invade the Indian boundary, from accusing the Indian army of stealing 800 sheep and 59 yaks, to false allegations of kidnapping people that were seeking asylum in India.
From twisting reality to harming Indian foreign officers in China to psychological warfare against the India Soldiers posted at the Indo-China boundary, China stopped at nothing to triumph over India. Even the 1967 attack on Nathu La and Cho La passes were a part of China’s diplomatic tactic to expand its boundaries.
Probal DasGupta, in his debut book “Watershed 1967: India’s Forgotten Victory over China”, talks about the various incidents between 1962 and 1967, where China tried to use diplomatic strategies to invade India.
